HomeStreet Bank Cup

The HomeStreet Bank Cup is an H1 Unlimited hydroplane boat race held annually at Seafair Weekend Festival. For 2020, the multi-day event will be July 31 - August 2 at Genesee Park on Lake Washington.

The race is an integral part of Seafair festival that was started in 1950. Seattle is the third oldest Unlimited race site. This year, we are celebrating 70 years of hydroplane racing at Seafair with multiple classes of boats.

Look here in late June for a complete list of race times and dates.

Boats you'll see at Seafair 2020 include...

H1 UNLIMITED - H1 Unlimited is an American Unlimited Hydroplane racing league that is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (APBA). A hydroplane (or hydro, or thunderboat) is a very specific type of motorboat used exclusively for racing. One of the unique characteristics about hydroplanes is that they only use the water they're on for propulsion and steering (not for flotation) - when going at full speed they are primarily held aloft by a principle of fluid dynamics known as "planing," with only a tiny fraction of their hull actually touching the water.
GRAND PRIX AMERICA is the premier supercharged automotive-powered race boat racing series in North America and is returning after a two-year absence at Seafair. Skimming across the top of the water at speeds upwards of 160 m.p.h., Grand Prix America Hydroplanes average 26-feet in length, 12-feet wide, each weighing over one ton. Tossing beautiful water roostertails from behind each boat by their powerful 1,600 horsepower engines, these hydroplanes create a thundering noise and fast speeds for exciting entertainment for all ages.
VINTAGE HYDROS - Some of Seafair’s favorite vintage boats will thunder on the waters of Lake Washington again. Stay tuned for what boats will be making their 2020 Seafair return!

J-HYDROS - A fan favorite in 2019 is thrilled to be returning for 2020. If you are nine years old and dream of someday playing baseball in the World Series, you need to start playing Little League. If the Super Bowl is your goal, you head to Pee Wee Football. But what do you do if you want to race an Unlimited Hydroplane? You can start very young with J-Hydro.

J stands for “Junior” and is the entry-level class of American Power Boat Association racing. J-Hydros are a little over nine feet long, weigh 300 pounds, and have a top speed of 40 miles per hour. They use stock 13.2 cubic inch OMC, or Mercury outboard engine. To participate in J-Hydro, a driver must be between the ages of 9 and 16.
